A cable shouldn’t really be exciting. And yet, here we are…

If you’ve already discovered ChiaoGoo interchangeable needles, these SWIV360 cables are a fabulous addition to your collection – and they’re one of the cables I use with my own ChiaoGoo set.

The clever bit is right there in the name: they swivel through 360 degrees at the connection, allowing your needle tips to rotate freely while you knit.

That means less twisting, less kinking and considerably less wrestling with your circular needle while you’re trying to concentrate on the actual knitting.

And once you’ve used a really good cable, you realise just how annoying a bad one was!

What’s special about SWIV360?

The SWIV360 has the flexibility and swivel action of ChiaoGoo’s SPIN cables combined with the strength of their TWIST-style steel construction.

The multi-strand steel cable is coated in a smooth silver-coloured nylon, making it strong and flexible while allowing your stitches to move easily around your circular needle.

But for me, it’s that 360-degree swivel that’s the star.

As you knit and move your needles, the connection can rotate with you rather than transferring all that movement into the cable. It makes everything feel smoother and more natural, particularly when you’ve got a larger project sitting on your needles.

Choose the length you need

SWIV360 cables are available in a fantastic range of lengths, so you can build your ChiaoGoo collection around the projects you actually make.

Available cable lengths include:

• 5cm
• 13cm
• 15cm
• 20cm
• 35cm
• 55cm
• 75cm
• 93cm
• 125cm

They’re available with Small (S) and Large (L) connections, so make sure you choose the connection that matches your needle tips.

Which connection do I need?

For the standard ChiaoGoo interchangeable tips:

Small (S) – fits 2.75mm–5mm tips
Large (L) – fits 5.5mm–10mm tips

ChiaoGoo’s TWIST and SPIN products use the same connection system, so tips and cables with matching screw sizes can be mixed and matched.

This is one of my favourite things about ChiaoGoo. You don’t have to buy a completely different circular needle every time you need another length. Choose your tips, choose your cable and make the circular needle you need for that particular project.

The MINI (M) range uses its own smaller connection and isn’t directly compatible with the standard Small and Large cables, although ChiaoGoo does make adaptors to connect different parts of the system.

A clever little extra

The small hole used with your ChiaoGoo tightening key has another very useful purpose – it can also be used to add a lifeline to your knitting.

Thread your lifeline through the hole and, as you knit, it can travel through your stitches with the cable.

Very handy when you’re knitting lace, complicated stitch patterns or anything else where the words “I’m sure it’ll be fine” are likely to come back and haunt you.

I use the SWIV360 and the fixed ChiaoGoo cables with my own needles and honestly, both are brilliant.

The SWIV360 is particularly lovely when I want that extra freedom of movement. The swivel lets the needle move naturally in my hands without the cable constantly trying to join in.

My ChiaoGoo kit goes everywhere with me and having a selection of cable lengths means I can usually put together exactly the circular needle I need rather than rummaging around looking for one particular fixed needle.

Are extra cables one of those things you start buying because you need another length and then somehow end up with a collection?

Possibly.

But we’ve already established that restraint isn’t really my thing.
