Frankie Baby Sweater Kit – PetiteKnit
A baby sweater, but with a little bit of an offbeat twist – exactly how we like them!
The Frankie Sweater is designed by Danish designer PetiteKnit and is a beautifully simple little sweater brought to life with rows of tiny contrast stripes. It’s modern, slightly Scandi and just that little bit different from your traditional baby knit.
For our Yarn Etc version, I’ve paired Gründl Hot Socks Pearl with Hjertegarn Long Colors, using the fabulous Rainbow – Shade 19 for the contrast.
And this is where the magic happens.
As you knit, the Long Colors gradually travels through the rainbow, so those tiny stripes gently change colour as you work your way through the sweater. Reds and oranges melt into yellows, greens and blues, giving you a gorgeous rainbow effect without changing yarn every few rows or having dozens of ends to sew in afterwards. The yarn does all the clever stuff for you!
For your main colour you can choose:
- Anthracite – Shade 3
OR - Beige Grey – Shade 19
Both make a lovely neutral background that allows the rainbow stripes to really stand out without making the finished sweater feel overly bright.
Your kit contains:
- 2 balls of Gründl Hot Socks Pearl (75% Merino, 5% Cashmere, 20% Nylon) in your chosen main colour
- 25g of Hjertegarn Long Colors (75% wool, 25% Nylon)– Shade 19 Rainbow
- Petite Knits Frankie Pattern (Paper Pattern)
- Enough yarn to make any size of the Frankie Sweater up to age 2
It’s a lovely project for anyone who wants to knit for a baby but doesn’t necessarily want a traditional ‘baby’ knit. Cool enough for everyday wear, colourful without being twee, and every sweater will be just a little bit different depending on where those gorgeous Long Colors fall.
Fiona says: This one is firmly in the Corey Collection! I loved knitting it – those tiny rainbow stripes make it slightly addictive because you’re always waiting to see which colour is going to appear next. I particularly love it against the anthracite; it’s a little bit quirky, a little bit Scandi and definitely not your average baby jumper. Just my kind of baby knit!
Happy crafting!
