ChiaoGoo SPIN Bamboo Small Interchangeable Needle Set – 10cm Tips
Beautiful bamboo, clever swivel cables and another firm favourite in my own knitting bag.
If you’ve read my thoughts on the ChiaoGoo stainless steel interchangeables, you’ll already know that I am a complete convert to the ChiaoGoo system.
But I don’t just use the stainless steel ones.
I have the ChiaoGoo bamboo tips too, and which ones I reach for genuinely depends on what I’m knitting. Some yarns just feel better on bamboo – particularly when I want a little more control and don’t want my stitches flying off the end of the needle!
These beautifully made SPIN interchangeable needles combine smooth Moso bamboo tips with clever swivel cables to make a wonderfully comfortable and versatile set.
Why bamboo?
ChiaoGoo’s SPIN tips are handcrafted from Moso bamboo and polished until beautifully smooth.
They’re warm and lightweight in the hands, with just a little more natural grip than stainless steel. That makes them particularly lovely with smooth or slippery yarns, or simply for knitters who prefer their stitches to stay put rather than whizzing along the needle.
They’re also wonderfully comfortable for longer knitting sessions – something I definitely appreciate!
And then there’s the SPIN…
The clue is in the name.
The SPIN cables have a swivel connection, allowing the cable to rotate freely while you knit. Instead of your cable gradually twisting itself into increasingly inventive shapes as you work, the swivel helps everything move naturally with your knitting.
It’s such a simple idea, but it makes a real difference.
And because ChiaoGoo’s SPIN and TWIST ranges use the same connection system, you aren’t tied to one particular combination. I use different ChiaoGoo tips and cables depending on the project I’m working on – that’s the beauty of buying into the interchangeable system.
What’s inside the Small set?
This set contains seven pairs of 10cm bamboo tips from 2.75mm to 5mm, covering some of the needle sizes I use most often.

Everything packs neatly away together, so you’ve got a fantastic range of circular needles ready whenever inspiration strikes.
Or, in my case, ready to be carried around everywhere just in case I suddenly need to cast something on.
One system, lots of possibilities
The really clever bit about ChiaoGoo interchangeables is that TWIST and SPIN products with the same connection size work together.
The standard connection sizes are:
MINI (M) – for the smallest needle sizes
Small (S) – 2.75mm–5mm in the standard 10cm and 13cm tips
Large (L) – 5.5mm–10mm in the standard 10cm and 13cm tips
This set uses the Small (S) connection, so you can add compatible ChiaoGoo tips and cables to your collection as you go.
The MINI system has its own smaller connection and requires MINI cables, although ChiaoGoo also makes connectors and adaptors for expanding your collection.
Bamboo or stainless steel?
This is probably the question I’d ask if I were looking at the two sets.
And my answer is…
I have both.
Of course I do. 😂
The stainless steel tips are wonderfully slick and pointy and I love them when I want my stitches to move quickly.
The bamboo gives me a little more grip and control and has that lovely warm, lightweight feel in the hands.
I don’t think one is necessarily better than the other – they’re simply different, and I choose between mine according to the yarn and project I’m working on.

My ChiaoGoos are absolutely one of my knitting guilty pleasures.
I carry my interchangeable set around with me because I love having the right needle available when I need it, and over time I’ve added different tips and cables to make the collection work perfectly for me.
The SPIN bamboo tips are gorgeous to knit with: smooth without being slippery, incredibly lightweight and lovely in the hand. Add the swivelling cables and you’ve got a seriously nice bit of knitting kit.
Are they a treat? Absolutely.
Do I regret treating myself to mine? Not for a second.
