Cowgirlblues Merino Linen
Oh, this is lovely stuff.
Cowgirlblues Merino Linen is one of those yarns that manages to feel beautifully natural and rustic while still having a gorgeous softness and subtle sheen. The blend of merino wool, linen and viscose gives it a light, drapey feel with just enough texture to make your stitches really interesting.
It is absolutely gorgeous for lightweight sweaters, cardigans, shawls and accessories – perfect when you want something woolly, but without the weight and warmth of a more traditional wool yarn.
And the colours… well, they are rather fabulous too.

If you’re looking at this yarn and wondering what to make with it, can I point you firmly in the direction of the Bao Bao Shawl by Isabell Kraemer?
I’ve popped a photograph on here of the Bao Bao worked in three shades of Merino Linen and I LOVE how this yarn works with the pattern. The combination of colour, texture and that lovely bit of drape from the linen is just gorgeous.
If you’d like to recreate the colourway shown in our photograph, you’ll need:
2 x Saffron
2 x Low Tide
1 x Cacao
Five skeins gives you 925 metres of yarn, which is plenty for the Bao Bao Shawl.
The Bao Bao is a top-down triangular shawl with a wonderfully effective dip-stitch stripe pattern. It’s one of those patterns that looks far more complicated than it actually is – and changing between three gorgeous colours makes it a really satisfying knit.

Of course, you don’t have to copy our colours. Pick two skeins each of two colours and one skein of a third and make your own combination. I can already see several possibilities…
A Little About Cowgirlblues
Cowgirlblues yarns come from South Africa, where the yarn is hand dyed under fair working conditions, supporting employment for women in the local community.
As you would expect from a hand-dyed yarn, the colours have beautiful natural variation and skeins can differ – sometimes quite noticeably – even within the same colourway.
That’s part of their charm, but for larger areas of the same colour we recommend alternating between two skeins every row or two as you approach the changeover. This helps blend the shades beautifully through your project.
