Yarns Unspun

Happy New Year

Hello and Happy New Year! Is it too late in January to say that now? I hope not haha, im still writing 2024 down on everything I write that has a date on so to me its still new year.

We hope you all had a stress free and yarn filled Christmas.  It seems like an age ago doesnt it. I managed virtually no knitting at all as I spent a few days with my gorgeous Daughter Chloe and her gang of humans and menagerie of animals and with her new rescue kitten aptly named Chaos the yarn didn’t really get out of the project bag before it became a toy to play with.  That being said kitten cuddles are the best so I wasn’t complaining haha. Chaos has had a few operations, half a missing ear and half of his tail amputated but is a happy, cute, cuddly boy who has finally landed on his feet with Chloe, welcome to the family Chaos.

Wasnt that snowy weather a shocker last week. It’s been such a long time since we had snow that has lasted over a week and I wasn’t sad to see the back of it when it went.  We managed to stay open during the bad weather (you cant stop us layering on the sweaters and braving the weather lol) and thank you so much for those who managed to trudge your way through the snow to come buy your yarn and attend the workshops, you are all fabulous.

We have been busy bees over at Yarn Etc Towers with some gorgeous new yarns arriving recently that you might have spotted over on the Facebook page (1) Facebook link here if you fancy a look round our socials and please do give us a follow to keep up with the latest news and goings on.

First up of the new yarns is really exciting.  Its the Yorkshire brand Baa Ram Ewe who we used to stock a good few years ago and we are bringing it back in store with their fantastic Natural Meadow Chunky Baa Ram Ewe Natural Meadow Chunky – Yarn etc… Meadow

I have to say is just the most squishy chunky indeed.  Made from 100% British wool it is a bit of an inbetweeny thickness with a recommended 8mm needle but I had a play and used it to make a solid chunky fabric using a 6mm needle and i’ve also knitting a sample in a 10mm needle and I have to say it stands up well to be treated as a super chunky too.  Pop in and have a look, stroke, feel for yourself, its a loose roving spin and gives a lovely finish.

Another of the Baa Ram Ewe yarns we have in stock is the divine Woodnote Aran Baa Ram Ewe Woodnote Aran – Yarn etc… BRE Woodnote Front

which is just the most gorgeous yarn to work with.  It has a super bounce to it and is made from 34% Bluefaced Leicester, 33% Masham, 33% Merino and our lovely Sue H has made a fabulous sample cowl with it – more of that on another blog as its just on the blocking boards at the moment.  Every colour in the collection works with each other and theres not a colour I don’t covet either.  Be quick, this is flying out of the door and just you wait until you see the cowl, you will all be running in for some!
