We’re delighted to introduce a gorgeous new addition to our own hand-dyed yarn collection. Slingsby 4ply is a luxurious blend of 70% Merino, 15% Alpaca and 15% Silk, combining exceptional softness with beautiful bounce, gentle warmth and an elegant finish.
With a generous 450 metres per 100g skein, this beautiful 4ply yarn is perfect for creating lightweight yet cosy knitted and crocheted garments and accessories that feel every bit as special as they look.
A Little Piece of Harrogate History
Our Slingsby yarn takes its name from William Slingsby, who discovered the remarkable properties of the natural spring water at Harrogate’s Tewit Well back in 1571.
His discovery helped establish Harrogate as a fashionable spa destination, attracting thousands of visitors who came to ‘take the waters’. Centuries later, our beautiful Yorkshire town continues to welcome visitors from around the world.
We thought it only fitting that a yarn inspired by such a special part of Harrogate’s history should be rather special itself!

Hand Dyed in Harrogate
Every skein of Slingsby 4ply is lovingly hand dyed by Fiona, owner of Yarn Etc and The Harrogate Yarn Company, right here in Harrogate, North Yorkshire.
Our colourways are produced in small, limited-edition batches of no more than five skeins, so each shade is just that little bit more special.
As with all hand-dyed yarns, subtle variations between skeins are part of their charm. If you’re making a larger project, we recommend alternating skeins to blend the colours beautifully.
