It's Sock Knitting Weather! 🧶
Patterns, projects and colourful Yarn...come squish!
Hello everyone, I hope you are all well and are looking forward to a change in the weather. It seems as though we may get a summer at the very end of June - for a few days at least!
As the title of this newsletter would suggest, I am currently knitting socks! 🧦
Who knew that we would be sock knitting in June whilst still wearing our winter socks!!
First I need to let you in on a little secret...
The news is that I am starting to hand dye some Harrogate Yarn Co yarns. It’s just a small part of the yarn company but have done 5 colours in small one off batches so far (two of the batches have sold already) and will be doing more over the coming months and introducing a couple more different yarns into the company. So watch this space...

Hand Turned Olive Wood Darning Mushrooms
At the beginning of May our Yarnista’s Fiona and Linda had a family holiday in Corfu where they visited Fiona’s cousin and family who emigrated to Corfu nearly 20 years ago. As you can imagine, there was a lot of catching up to do as Fiona hadn't seen the Corfu tribe for 6 years but she did, whilst there, manage to squeeze in a visit to the talented guy with the wood turning shop and had a custom order made of beautiful Olive wood hand turned darning mushrooms.

These bespoke beauties were made to Fiona’s own specifications just for you and they are a joy to hold, stroke and use. They are perfect for making essential repairs to your loving hand made socks and are also beautiful enough to be used for decoration in the home too!
Carried home from Acheravi, Corfu, in Fiona’s hand luggage just for you do not miss out on these limited editions as they won’t be around for long and won’t be back in stock again until she revisits beautiful Corfu again!

So, back to the socks!
I’m knitting a pair at the moment using the bamboo and its the softest bamboo/wool/nylon mix yarn ever and the colours are something else, it almost feels like summer with those colours!
As we all know sock knitting is the perfect lightweight summer holiday project to take away with you on your travels so grab yourself a ball of this fantastic sock yarn, a pair of circular needles, a sexy project bag and some stitch markers and you are ready to holiday like a knitting goddess.

So what's been on my needles this month? Well, I've managed to finish a few things since our last newsletter.

We have been having fun running a Polina ‘Make-a-Long’ over the last few months via the Shop’s dedicated FB group and every single Polina that is being made is just looking so different in style and colour and colourwork repeats that its just the most interesting addictive make!!
As you will see from mine it is one of the more minimalistic sweaters with just the one repeat of the colourwork sections but its just as I wanted it and its going to be worn to death this coming autumn/winter around the shop. The green and mocha look great together but it was a hard choice to make in the end as there are just so many colours I could have chosen.
You can read more about it over on the blog here and see some of the progress of our other Make-a-long girls’ sweaters. They really are fabulous 😊

It's a cowl knitted in the round by Clare of Wee County Yarns using her Kinross 4ply yarn which we have just started stocking.
You can find out more about Wee County Yarns and details on the Kinross 4ply yarn in our blog here.
(the brown edge is just a provisional cast on so won’t be used in the cowl 😁)

I’m working on a kids crochet cardi in Sirdar stories (here) and I really need to crack on with it as it’s been on the go for months!
Sirdar Stories is a cotton-rich blend of forty Insta-friendly shades, perfect for recreating catwalk crochet looks and celebrity knitting trends.
A cool, soft blend of cotton and acrylic, Sirdar Stories is a lightweight yarn that’s easy to work with and gives great stitch definition to colour-work and textured patterns. Buy it online here.

I am also working on a linen crochet top in Lang Crealino that I’ve been taking far too long to make as well 😂
This is a gorgeous yarn made of 100% linen. With not less than 165 meters per 50 g, you can create the most beautiful designs.
This linen is super-soft. You can use detergent with softener for delicate wash to keep the linen smooth.
We love seeing what you are working on and what you have finished too. Keep tagging us in photos online or sharing on our Facebook page.
If you fancy a bit of yarn therapy don’t forget we are online and open 24 hours a day at www.yarnetc.co.uk and back open in person on Tuesday.

I went there the other night with one of my besties Liz from New Zealand who was over for a few days in Harrogate (we've been buddies for 33 years!) and our friend Dawn (again who I've known for nearly as long) and the food was amazing. Dawn is also one of my fab customers and a fellow hooker 😁
The Vegan and Veggie Burritos were outstanding and so big we bought half home for lunch the next day and the loaded fries were something else - we did have to double check they were vegan as the sauces were just so bloody creamy and lush.
It's hidden away on the back of Oxford Street (overlooking the multi storey car park). They've been open for 5 months now and its super hidden gem. I highly recommend even for booze free me. They cater really well for the AF's amongst us and have 6 choices of alcohol free beer, get in!
